Worn to the Bone

I am exhausted. To say that this has been a whirlwind three and a half days would be an understatement. I'm gonna post pictures and stories and all the rest, but now I need some sleep.

Thanks to Kat, Rob, Andrew, Jon, Mark, Dave, Amanda, Maynard, Adam, Danny, Justin, Davin, Corey, Laura and about a thousand other people that helped make this one of the most memorable I've had.

For now, sleep on this : Tool is quite likely the best live act ever.

SO the time has come

Well here I am, impatiently waiting to leave. In 1/2 hour I'll be in Jon's car, headed to Regina, then Calgary, then Utopia, then Esterhazy.

I had the wonderful pleasure last night of doing something I didn't think I'd get the chance to do again. I got to sit down with Dave and write a song. Sure he'd already written much of it, but we put the rest together and played it a few times. It's a procession song for his wedding that he's written for his fiancee. It's a beautiful song, I hope we pull it off flawlessly at the wedding, just so it's perfect for Amanda. Everybody better be crying after this number (though it's pretty uplifting, so probably sporting wood would be more apt). I was also afforded the chance to write in a genre I've only played before, worship or "church" music. Any of you that played guitar in a church choir will laugh at how cheesily derivative of that genre it is. Gimme a break, we had 2 hours.

But other than that I'm packed and ready for Tool and the wedding! Maybe I'll post while I'm away. LATER YO!

Funkenstein, Hey Hey Hey, Doctor Funkenstein

Holy Crap, they fired Shivers

So for the first time in like a month I actually picked up the phone to call my mom. Why? Because the Riders fired GM, Roy Shivers.

I saw it coming, but not this soon!

Untitled - The Blog

Over the past four or five years I've been delighted to learn of an angle that has developed in my litte sister, Shanna (Hecticity, the one with the impossible to pronounce name). The is a very fun conservative to debate. I know alot of Conservatives and most times when I talk to them about politics, I leave angry and annoyed, and very often insulted. Shanna is delightfuly refreshing in that she is very well read in the political scene, and world news scene, typically well argued and she can concede a point. Add to that when she ribs in debate, it's in jest not in insult. I think (hope) that she feels the same way about me, arguing the liberal side of the debate.

Shanna and I have for a short while been slowly chipping away at a political debate blog. One of us posts a topic (typically so far National politics, but not limited to), posts our opinions or observations and then debate follows in the comments.

The blog is called Untitled (We couldn't even agree on a title). It's at http://untitledpolitics.blogspot.com. We don't post too often and we aren't always diligent in the debate portion, but hey we state some opinions and if one of us feels strongly enough (or brave enough) to debate, then we do. I'm beating her on posts right now...

I'm Pretty Much a Moron

So I'm not really sure what came over me last night. I wasn't drunk... really tired, but not drunk. Anyways, it seems I felt the need to flirt with a young lady blogger named Breanne on her blog, "daring to be remarkable".

Honestly, I'm embarrased. I'm a pathetic schmuck...

Sorry.

In other news, she started it.

Zombies Again!

Crap... another mention in the press... the zombies are at it again. I'm starting to think all that 666 crap I was reporting on last year and earlier this year might have been a sign of this coming. Forget the HIV/AIDS conference in Toronto, I think we have a far more pressing matter to attend to.

They did it!

So the boys in Green pulled it out. I'm just hoping mom and dad saw my sign on TV ("Hi Mom and Dad watching on CBC in Halifax"). I tried.

Also got a kick ass retro Rider logo ringer T-Shirt. I believe it might be my new favourite peice of clothing.

Football

Well off to another 'Rider game tonight, this time versus the um, "Struggling" Hamilion Tiger Cats. If the past few games have been an indication we should lose 67-13.

It's funny, I don't know if it's just a Saskatchewan thing, but going to a game is like going to church... with more swearing and cheerleaders. But seriously, when I go to a game, I don't need to think what I'm gonna wear, it'll be green and white, topped off with my 'Rider cap. Everyone with half a brain knows to "wear their greens" to a game. Just like church... yes I wear green to church.

Hey the last game I went to, my mom accedentaly wore blue... and the Argos won... I blame her.

Anyways, this post really isn't going anywhere, but that I'm going to the game, I'll cheer while I'm there and then I'll bitch and complain after the game and ask for Danny Barrets head on a plate.

You know, of late I've been thinking alot about death...

.... not in a negative way, mind you, but certainly a morbid subject.

Questions I've pondered (answers in italics) :
- Where would I like to be buried?
- The moon.. though in orbit around Saturn might be nice....

- What songs would I liked played at my funeral?
- "Brickhouse" by The Commodores

- What would you do if everyone you knew died and the world was mostly destroyed and there were like 1 in 1000 people surviving all like from "The Stand" or "Mad Max", or maybe like killer zombies that do the whole "They bite you then you turn into one" schtick?
- Likely I'd cry for about three weeks then I'd stock up on porn and Cheetos and make the most of it.

- Coffin or urn?
- Coffin, and it should be a large black one... I'd like to be buried standing up should I be placed on the moon... if in orbit around Saturn, preferably in alignment with other moons or plantets... at least on days of reckoning I should be in line.

- Would you like to be frozen in case you could be healed/cured?
- No, thanks. I plan to die of sexual exhaustion, and really I'd like that to be on my epitaph... "Died doing what (and who) he loved". I'd gladly die and stay dead.

- I don't have "Brickhouse"? Since I wouldn't spend actual money on your funeral... what should I do?
- It's on my computer... I'll let you borrow a blank CD to burn a copy of it for the funeral. Password to get on the thing is "HelloKitty"

- Open Bar?
- Sure

- Best Method of Suicide?
- Ok this one is complicated... and somehow related to that freezing question. The trick would be to find a partner as suicidal but also as showy as you. Go parachuting together, strip naked... well you get the picture... the idea would be to climax as you hit the ground. Morbid? Yes. Perverted? Certainly. BUT WHAT A WAY TO GO!

- Is there an afterlife?
- I certainly hope so, because I got a coupon from some guy on the street for "One Free Hug From Jesus".. as opposed to a "Jesus Hug"

- Who's going to die first, Gerald Ford or Fidel Castro?
- Ford

Spiffin up...

Well this old blog is rapidly approaching two more major milestones. In 19 posts I will have made 500 posts on this blog alone. And in about 3 months, the blog that the creator never beleived would last a day will turn 2 years old.

What does this all mean? Well everytime I get ansty and want to redesign the page I just realize how satisfied I am with this look. So I'm gonna just polish up the look a bit over the next while. I'll play around with some more graphically interesting stuff, maybe a new font but the basic look and the girls will remain.

On that note, the SaskBloggers now have a Vargas girl. I added her tonight, over there near the bottom. I gave her some tiger lilies to hold on to so she looks like she's from Saskatchewan... I could have as easily put someone getting gouged on a crown owned utility bill or perhaps have her suffering the fate of a second rate football team. OUCH. But seriously, I love Saskatachewan.

I moved the Movie Factory webpage out of the "Pilot World Network" and into the sort of Sub-Network. Should have probably been there all along, but now that I don't work there, it should be a little more separated, even though I still do critical maintenance to the page.

I plan to add a few more links as well ... get this place interesting again... like when it had that Queen album with my head on it ... stuff was more flashy then!

Oh and finally a negative change. I had quietly removed the word verification to see if I could go without. And for a few months, the page was quiet. But the spam has picked up again and I don't really have alot of time to spend deleting it. So I'm afraid the word verification goes back up. Sorry folks, a necessary evil of Web 2.0.

One week from now...

... I'll be in a car on my way to see Tool.

I'm not sure I can be properly sedated until then. At least I have a football game Saturday night to release some energy at.

Prediction

K guys, I'm not trying to cause mass hysteria, perhaps just some fore-warning... get prepared type stuff. I've talked to a few people lately about the state of world politics right now. Persistent terrorist threats througout the world, battle fields througout the Middle-East and Africa, political tension in North Korea, throughout South and Central America, United States at war on several battle fronts, Britain is at war, hell CANADA is at war for the first time in 50 YEARS.

With the fragile ceasefire currently occuring in Lebanon, the United Nations is calling for soldiers from it's member countries to help enforce the ceasefire and maintain the peace. But no one is sending anyone. I think the world millitary is spread so thin right now or is so rooted in fear (can't leave for fear of attack), that there is just nothing availiable. The world is a packed bomb just waiting to go off. What's the trigger? It only took one death to start World War I folks... we should start dealing with this now before someone starts using the bomb again.

Astronomy Heavy Post

You've been warned.

So the international council thingy that names planets is considering "What to do with Pluto". Read the article here... it's good. Basically, Pluto is pretty much too small to really be called a planet, and it's made more complicated by the fact that an object larger than Pluto has recently been found. So one of the proposed ideas is to ADD a bunch more planets or "plutoids" that would grab their definition from Pluto, thus adding several large objects from the outer regions of the Solar System, one object previously classified an asteroid in the belt between Mars and Jupiter, and the moon of Pluto now thought of as sister plutoids.

I think this would be great. I think true interest and imagination comes from things that are readily in front of you. A child is more likely to dream of going to Mars than Jupiter, simply because they speak of Mars more. One is more likely to want to go to the moon than Halley's Comet as the moon is more present.

By exposing these new objects to more minds, more creativity will be spurred. More science fiction, exploration, discovery, mathematics maybe even religions would be sporouted from these seeds. New clubs and organizations, new webpages, new sections of encyclopaedias, dictionaries, textbooks and more.

I think it's exciting. I think it's great that space is finally recapturing the minds of the people... I think it really died there in the late 80's - now. I know only good will come of our current efforts.

"Blogger Joining the 21st century?" or "Wave the White Flag!"

Ok OK, I know, it's not THAT bad, but it's about time. Blogger has been lagging behind the rest of the Blogosphere in features and services for about 2 years now. But there's a new "Blogger Beta" availiable right now, so here's hoping that it's going to be a good thing.

In other news, the terrorists have won, people required to be naked and shaved to fly on an airplane. But seriously, we've got to dummy up, this is exactly the way the terrorists want us to react. I think it's time we started to re-think our approach to this before we're sedated before getting on the plane. It's so bad that musicians can't even take priceless instuments on board, submitting them to the careless treatment of airport staff and the merciless temperature and humidity conditions of a cargo hold.

So no music and no water... yep sounds like the Nazis to me.

Well ok

So I drank some milk and read the following on a message board :

"Let me get this straight:

Canadians have universal health care, a budget surplus, a government pretty much free of fundie xian wackjobs, legal prostitution, semi-reasonable drug laws, low crime...And NOW big lotto payouts that actually deliver what's promised?

I bet the rest of the world dosen't hate their guts, either.

Why in the FARK do those guys hate freedom so much?!?
/If this keeps up, in a few years Canada will have a bigger south border illegal immigration problem than we do."

I actually feel a LOT better.

Lethargic

Guh.

You know, I think it's about time I get over this depression shit. It's seriously fucking my health.

Paperwork again?!

Ok forgot one and just had one pop into my mailbox, so some more Pilot's World paperwork to attend to (it seems to go months without being touched, then I get it all loaded down at once).

Firstly, Corey of Tales from the Punchbowl fame has decided that enraging a small Saskatchewan community is not enough of an acheivement for a blog, so he's eliminated Tales from the Punchbowl and has come out swinging with a new blog, CD's Playhouse. Head on over and check it out, it promises some good times. I only wish it had an Andrew-like rating system for movies (6 musicians out of 10).

Second, I forgot to add my YouTube account to my sidebar. I've now done so and to celebrate, I added an old video clip to it that you can check out while you're testing the link. (Just a little ditty I shot in Minneapolis...). Enjoy!

Stupid MySpace

Great! I've been on MySpace for what... 12 hours and I hate it.

No seriously.

Ok so I started a personal account, then my bro tells me if I want to upload music, I'll have to start a band account... ok 17 steps later, I've cancelled my personal account, and started a band account.
Try and get some pics up... no problem as long as they're smaller than say a postage stamp... while every other online portal on the web today can take a large file and shrink it, apparantly MySpace hasn't reached that level of sophistication. Fine whatever, I've got Gimp.

Then it's time to give the place a new paint job, maybe rearrange some furniture. Either I'm too awesome or they suck... I can't figure this shit out. I'm gonna go with the they suck part, because frankly, I'm not that bright. But no matter, the thing still works, and most customized MySpace pages look like design throwbacks from 1997.

Finally (and here's the part where I get homicidal), I try and upload music. The music I'm putting up is of the "Jam Band" genre, which of course means a runtime somewhere around the length of a mideast conflict. And now I know why MySpace is a haven for emo-kids. Emo is the only current indy music where the songs are less than say a minute and a half long. So now I have to go and try and find a short clip in an otherwise fine song so I can post on MySpace.

I tell you, it's enough to make me quit.

And some paperwork...

Hey all, just did a little bit o' blog maintenance. Cleaned up some links in my blogroll, if you want back on, just ask.

Also added a new link to the webpage of an old pal and great magician, Richard Roy. Check him out!

Finally, I've added a few new parts to the Pilot's World Network. I've got my previously mentioned Photography Blog up, a new MySpace account where I will concentrate my music work, and the webpage of the band I'm in Old Skool.

I'm gonna try and get rid of the ads in the coming days too.. I've made a mere $5 in 8 months. Boourns to that.

EDIT - Almost forgot another peice of paperwork, Lance is planning a SaskBlogger meet on the 19th in Saskatoon. I won't be there alas, as I am busy that weekend, but if you wanna check out what it's about head over to http://saskblogs.ca/.

"You Must Have Been Out of Your Head"

So for the third time in a year I've been in close contact with the breakup of a long term relationship (including my own). Now I'm not gonna sit here and say that this is the ugliest part of the human condition, but perhaps it is the most tragic.

Two people meet, and fall in love. Now we're not talking about a few casual dates and the story ends. These people share secrets, lives, passion and souls. Then one day things turn sour, and for some reason comprimise is no longer an option and the parties inevitably split. Soon the pain of even seeing each other becomes too much and often within weeks, that person we saw everyday and shared our most intimate moments with becomes a painful scar of the past. If you do have to see them, you try and avoid it, and eventually they just pass from conciousness.

Is it so naive to beleive that a person can fall in love forever, and loss of that love can leave a wound that won't heal?

A Long Long Weekend

Maybe I'll get into specifics later. Let's just say I've had a very long weekend, and I'm not really the same person who left work on Friday.

Saturday, August 05, 2006

Hopefully my family in Austalia pays attention to this

All joking aside folks. This one's for real, I read about it in the paper. If you can help.. well you know what to do.

Friday, August 04, 2006

So I had this idea for a post...

...today at work. I think it had something to do with a really good reason why the world should give me more money.

****I beleive it's hilarious that I'm about to write and long post and I wasn't going to get to the point. Well here it is.... "I feel like a more stable person now".********

But hell I talk alot of shit in my head at work, so I'm gonna do something else.

So I've been trying to persue smaller projects in my life. Like instead of shooting at "a good career and a family", I'm shooting more at, "One more show a month" and "Win One Small Photography Contest". Stuff that in turn make me work harder to acheive my goals. I dunno, lately it just seems like having some more targeted and direct goals have helped me to get shit done.

I've been so busy practicing and working on prints and shots that I haven't been thinking about being lonely or bored or even unsuccessful. I've got money in the bank, I do a few things I love every day and someday soon God's gonna send me the rest of the equation.

Thursday, August 03, 2006

Make your point in the first 150 words.

I know this is hard to do, but this day and age, if you want someone to read your writing, be it in blog, letter or whatever form. GET TO THE FUCKING POINT!

Go ahead and elaborate afterwards, but to begin with make sure the people want to read, capture their attention, then move on. I don't like reading RSS feeds or even regularily visited blogs and have to be bored for half an hour just to find out it was only a hangnail.

Thanks for your time. (The less the better).

Slip Slidin' Away

"I know a woman, (who) became a wife
These are the very words she uses to describe her life
She said a good day aint got no rain
She said a bad day is when I lie in the bed
And I think of things that might have been"

You know I think Paul Simon is probably a pretty nice, cool guy. You know, easy to get along with.

I bet Garfunkel just left the lid off the toothpaste one too many times, AND NIGGAH DON'T PLAY THAT!
